2004 Crew Members

The inaugural Drive for Diversity Crew Member class was made up of six qualified candidates. These individuals earned placement with teams in the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series:

David Cropps

Calvin Gravely

Amar Johnson

Robert Johnson

Tommy Lane

Cesar Villanueva

 

David Cropps

David Cropps, of Mount Airy, N.C., worked with the No. 21 Innovative Motorsports team in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series during the 2004 season. Cropps came to the Drive for Diversity program with motorsports experience, having worked for Washington/Erving Motorsports and volunteered with a number of other NASCAR teams. Cropps currently works as a tire specialist for Evernham Motorsports in the ARCA Re/Max Series.

Calvin Gravely

Calvin Gravely, of Martinsville, Va., was a participant in the Crew Member program in 2004, 2005, and 2006. During his time with the Drive for Diversity program, Gravely worked in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with HT Motorsports and Orleans Racing. He currently serves as the jackman for South Point Racing.

Amar Johnson

Amar Johnson, of Durham, N.C., participated in the motorsports program at North Carolina A&T before joining the Drive for Diversity program in 2004. While with the program, Johnson worked for Bobby Hamilton Racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Johnson most recently worked as a jackman for Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Busch Series.

Robert Johnson

Robert Johnson, of Fayetteville, N.C., joined the Drive for Diversity program after serving 22 years in the U.S. Army and graduating from North Carolina A&T University in 2004 with a degree in manufacturing systems. While with the Crew Member program, Johnson worked with Roush Racing on the No. 50 Craftsman Truck Series team. Johnson is now employed as a strength and conditioning coach at Roush Fenway Racing.

Tommy Lane

Tommy Lee, of Wall, N.J., joined the Crew Member program after serving as an instructor at the Urban Youth Racing School in Philadelphia. Lane worked with SCORE Motorsports in the NASCAR Busch Series in 2004, before leaving the Crew Member program to pursue his racing career with the D4D Driver Development program in 2005.

Cesar Villanueva

Cesar Villanueva, of Parsippany, N.J., joined the Drive for Diversity program after graduating from NASCAR Technical Institute and serving as a tire changer with NASCAR, ARCA, and ASA teams. While with the Crew Member program, Villanueva worked on the No. 47 Morgan-Dollar Motorsports team. Villanueva now serves as a fabricator and front tire changer for Germain Racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
